Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is built on the idea that sound technique can overcome strength and size. Through the work of pioneers such as Carlos Gracie and Hélio Gracie, the art developed into a practical system of self-defense based on leverage, timing, and mechanical efficiency. In later years, practitioners such as Rickson Gracie and Royce Gracie helped demonstrate the effectiveness of these principles to the world.
Grapple Mechanics Jiu-Jitsu Academy is an official affiliate of Rickson Gracie’s Jiu-Jitsu Global Federation (JJGF). In Portland, Oregon, we teach and preserve the technical foundations of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu through structured training that emphasizes connection, balance, leverage, and timing rather than strength or athleticism.
Our goal is to help students build practical self-defense skills, improve physical fitness, and develop a deeper understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as both a martial art and a lifelong discipline. We strive to maintain a professional, respectful, and welcoming environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can train, learn, and grow.
