Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is built on the idea that sound technique can overcome strength and size. Through the work of pioneers such as Carlos Gracie and Hélio Gracie, the art developed into a practical system of self-defense based on leverage, timing, and mechanical efficiency. In later years, practitioners such as Rickson Gracie and Royce Gracie helped demonstrate the effectiveness of these principles to the world.
Grapple Mechanics Jiu-Jitsu Academy is an official affiliate of Rickson Gracie’s Jiu-Jitsu Global Federation (JJGF). In Portland, Oregon, we teach structured, practical Jiu-Jitsu built on connection, balance, leverage, and timing rather than strength, speed, or sport-focused training.
Our goal is to help students develop real-world self-defense skills, improve physical fitness, and gain a deeper understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a professional, respectful, and welcoming environment.
